Air Canada Pilots Approve Strike Mandate, Possible Walkout on September 17

Air Canada pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, have voted with 98% support to approve a strike mandate, potentially leading to a walkout as early as September 17. The union, which represents over 5,400 pilots, has been negotiating with the airline since June 2023, with federal conciliation talks currently underway.

The key issues include wages and scheduling, with the union highlighting significant pay disparities between Air Canada pilots and their U.S. counterparts. The current contract, described by the union as "stale and outdated," has been in place for a decade. Air Canada remains hopeful for a resolution before the deadline.
