Air Canada Pilots Vote for Strike Mandate: What It Means for Travelers

Air Canada pilots have overwhelmingly voted in favor of a strike mandate, with a potential walkout as early as September 17. The pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), cite outdated wages as a primary issue, particularly as their peers in other major airlines earn significantly more.

The current contract, which expired last September, dates back to 2014, and negotiations have been ongoing since June 2023. If the strike proceeds, it could ground up to 1,000 flights daily, affecting over 120,000 passengers. Both sides hope to reach an agreement before the strike deadline, but uncertainty remains.
