BC Premier David Eby Criticizes Federal Immigration Funding Favoring Quebec and Ontario

B.C. Premier David Eby criticized the federal government's $750 million immigration support for Quebec, arguing it neglects Western Canada. Speaking at the Western Premiers' Conference, Eby highlighted B.C.'s influx of 10,000 newcomers every 37 days, stressing the need for equitable per capita funding.

Quebec's Premier François Legault had requested $1 billion to address temporary resident surges, while B.C. grapples with similar challenges.

The western premiers discussed improving supply chains, infrastructure, and energy security, urging the federal government for collaborative efforts and long-term, predictable funding. They expressed disappointment over the absence of a new infrastructure program in the federal budget.
