British Columbia to Test Emergency Alert System Across All Platforms This Wednesday

During Emergency Preparedness Week, British Columbia will conduct a province-wide test of its emergency alert system. This test, scheduled for 10:55 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, will broadcast across all compatible cellphones and will interrupt radio and television programs. The Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness is conducting this test to evaluate the system's effectiveness in a real crisis. Expanded in 2022, the BC Emergency Alerts now cover a range of imminent threats including floods, wildfires, and extreme heat emergencies. The alerts will be issued automatically and are free for users. Further details about the test are available on the ministry's website.
