Canada Needs National Strategy to Curb Gambling Harms, Urges CCSA Report

The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) calls for a national strategy to monitor and control gambling-related harms, citing increased issues following Ontario's legalization of commercial online gambling and sports betting. The report urges political leaders to treat gambling with the same regulatory rigor as alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana, emphasizing the addictive properties and potential harms.

The CCSA recommends higher standards for gambling promotion and availability, alongside a robust system to track related harms. The report highlights the rise in problem gambling calls since Ontario's policy changes and advocates for consistent national rules governing gambling advertising.
