Canada's Olympic Medal Journey: From Rome to Winter Success

Canada's Olympic journey began in Rome with just one medal: a silver won by the men's eight rowing team. Future International Olympic Committee vice president Dick Pound also competed, finishing sixth in the 100-meter freestyle. Historically, Canada has won only one medal at the Winter Games on four occasions, but the nation has never left an Olympic Games empty-handed.

The Winter Olympics have proven more fruitful for Canada, with the country's top four Olympic performances occurring in recent Winter Games, bolstered by the Own The Podium program. This program, initiated before the 2010 Vancouver Games, funds high-performance programs to boost Canada's Olympic success.
