CrowdStrike Outage Causes Massive Delta Airlines Flight Cancellations

A software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike caused severe flight disruptions for Delta Airlines, leading to the cancellation of over 2,500 flights from last Friday into the middle of this week. The U.S. Department of Transportation has launched an investigation into Delta’s response to the outage, which primarily affected its Windows-based IT systems.

The faulty update caused disruptions in critical services necessary for flight operations, including crew scheduling. Delta's IT teams were required to manually repair and reboot each affected system, prolonging the recovery process. Delta has apologized to customers and is cooperating with the investigation, promising to restore reliable service.
