“Godfather of AI” Geoffrey Hinton Warns of AI’s Long-Term Dangers After Nobel Prize Win

Geoffrey Hinton, a Nobel Prize-winning University of Toronto professor often called the "Godfather of AI," is cautioning that artificial intelligence could make humans "irrelevant" if unchecked. In a rare interview, Hinton stressed the urgent need for research into AI's control, warning that the technology's rapid evolution could surpass human intelligence and lead to unintended consequences.

Hinton, whose pioneering work in machine learning earned him the Nobel, highlighted AI's positive contributions, especially in health care, but expressed concerns about its unpredictable trajectory in the coming decade, urging more research to prevent potentially existential risks.
