Over $12 Million Spent on Policing Toronto Protests Since October

The Toronto Police Service has disclosed that over $12 million has been allocated to manage protests throughout the city since October, marking a significant investment in both regular and overtime policing hours. Deputy Chief Lauren Pogue highlighted the intensive effort to cover "hundreds" of events, with expenditures rising by nearly $3 million since February. The announcement follows recent tensions at a pro-Palestinian demonstration, leading to charges and claims of police brutality. In response, Police Chief Myron Demkiw affirmed the right to peaceful assembly while emphasizing the importance of lawful protest. The police's commitment to public safety and dialogue with community representatives continues amid growing global tensions.
