Record-Breaking Password Leak: 10 Billion Passwords Compromised in RockYou2024



The Cybernews research team has identified a massive new password leak, with nearly 10 billion unique plaintext passwords published on a hacker forum on July 4th. Named RockYou2024, this file contains 9,948,575,739 passwords and surpasses the previous RockYou2021 leak, which had 8.4 billion passwords. 


Compiled by user ObamaCare, this latest breach includes over 1.5 billion new passwords collected since 2021. Cybernews warns that these passwords will likely be used in credential stuffing attacks, leading to potential data breaches, financial fraud, and identity theft. Users are advised to reset compromised passwords, enable multi-factor authentication, use password managers, and regularly check HaveIBeenPwned.com.
