San Joaquin County Grass Fire Forces Evacuations, Consumes 14,000 Acres




A grass fire that erupted Saturday in San Joaquin County, California, has burned 14,000 acres, prompting evacuations. Originating in Tracy, the Corral Fire is 30% contained. Authorities warn of continued danger due to gusty winds and high temperatures. Evacuation orders cover areas west of the California Aqueduct and south of Corral Hollow Creek. A temporary evacuation site is set up at Larch Clover Community Center. Two firefighters sustained minor to moderate injuries. A section of I-580 is closed due to smoke and zero visibility. The fire’s cause is under investigation as officials anticipate worsening conditions due to heat and wind.
