Spotify's venture into hardware with its Car Thing accessory has come to an abrupt halt, with the company ceasing production less than a year after its public release. Now, two years later, owners are facing a complete shutdown of the device on December 9th, as per emails sent by Spotify.
Regrettably, Spotify isn't offering compensation or open-sourcing the product. Instead, it's advising customers to responsibly dispose of Car Thing as part of its efforts to streamline product offerings and focus on enhancing user experience.
The company clarified that there are no plans for a replacement or new version of Car Thing. Despite its sleek design, the accessory primarily acted as a remote control for Spotify on mobile devices, limiting its widespread adoption despite finding a niche community.
