Starbucks Appoints Brian Niccol as New CEO Amidst Major Management Shake-Up




Starbucks has appointed Brian Niccol, the CEO of Chipotle Mexican Grill, as its new CEO and executive chairman, effective September 9. This sudden leadership change comes as Starbucks grapples with business challenges and activist investor scrutiny. Current CEO Laxman Narasimhan, who had been in the role for just 16 months, stepped down amid slowing sales and internal criticism. 


Niccol’s appointment led to a 21% surge in Starbucks shares, while Chipotle’s stock fell. Niccol, who will leave Chipotle at the end of August, previously transformed the burrito chain’s fortunes and is expected to bring stability and growth to Starbucks.
