Study Shows Week Without Social Media Boosts Young Women's Self-Esteem

A new study from York University has found that young women experience improved self-esteem and body image after just a week-long break from social media. Professor Jennifer Mills, co-author of the study published in the journal Body Image, highlighted the substantial positive effects of such breaks. The research involved 66 female undergraduates, with half abstaining from platforms like Instagram and Facebook for a week. The results indicated significant mental health benefits, suggesting that reducing social media exposure could enhance well-being, especially for those vulnerable to societal beauty standards.
