Uber Rolls Out AI-Powered Pay Model in Ontario, Raising Concerns Over Driver Income and Pricing

Uber has introduced an AI-powered pay model in Ontario, using algorithms to determine driver compensation based on factors such as pick-up location, destination, and day of the week. While the system promises more transparency by showing pay upfront, drivers like George Wedge, president of the Rideshare Drivers Association of Ontario, are concerned it will reduce earnings, as reported by drivers in B.C.

The new model also raises questions about data use, wage discrimination, and pricing strategies. Consumer advocates worry that passengers could face higher fares as Uber maximizes profit, similar to airline dynamic pricing models.
