UFCW Local 401 Urges Measured Response to Loblaws Pricing Practices

Amid rising grocery prices in Canada, there's a growing call to boycott Loblaws, known for its various chains including Real Canadian Superstore and No Frills. This movement stems from frustration among workers, consumers, and politicians alike over what many perceive as Loblaws' price-gouging practices. However, this strategy might not be the best starting point for addressing affordability issues. A boycott could inadvertently reduce part-time workers' hours, impacting their livelihoods during this crisis. Instead of a boycott, UFCW Local 401 advocates for a more measured approach, pushing for necessary wage increases across the board and emphasizing the importance of supporting unionized workers. The union is actively negotiating with employers for immediate wage raises and advises against extreme measures like theft, which could lead to legal consequences. The focus is on uniting to encourage substantial changes through legal and collective action.
