Cartier Concedes: Mexican Med Student Scores $19 Earrings in Price Glitch

A medical resident from Mexico is now the owner of diamond Cartier earrings after the luxury brand mistakenly listed them online for $19 instead of their true price of $19,000. After Cartier attempted to retract the offer, the shopper, Rogelio Villarreal, engaged in a months-long battle involving Mexican consumer protection officials, ultimately leading Cartier to honor the original listed price. Villarreal, who discovered the pricing error while browsing Cartier's online store, initially declined the company's offer of Cartier champagne as compensation. The dispute concluded with Cartier sending the earrings, much celebrated by Villarreal in a social media post declaring, "War is over, Cartier is delivering." The official resolution of this case underscores the obligation of businesses to honor published prices, even in cases of apparent error.
