Winnipeg Resident Sues Uber Canada Over Alleged Assault by Driver

In a significant legal move, a class-action lawsuit has been initiated against Uber Canada by a Winnipeg resident, identified only as C.K., alleging a sexual assault by an Uber driver in December 2023. The Consumer Law Group in Ontario has taken up the case, presenting it to Manitoba's Court of King's Bench on March 15, 2024. Accusations against Uber Canada include negligence, with claims that the incident, reported to have occurred during an early morning ride on December 3, led to severe emotional and psychological distress for C.K. Despite these serious allegations, Uber Canada has not yet responded formally to the lawsuit but emphasizes its commitment to safety on its platform, outlining stringent background checks for drivers. The case, still pending certification for class-action status, could open the door for others who have experienced similar incidents to join the legal battle.
